Roles and Responsibilities:
Structure: The BOE has a Chair and Vice Chair appointed
annually by the incoming President (1ST VP) and is comprised of [a
minimum of]12 members (and a chair) four of which are by virtue of
positions held (Chair, Board of Regents and Board of Governors for a
one (1) year term; Chair, Leadership Institute, Professional
Development Committee, and Certification Board for two (2) year
term) and 7 at large appointments, each for three (3) year staggered
terms (initially BOK for transition). Ex-officio / non- voting
membership include the IAAM President, Chair of the Foundation or
delegate, and Director of Education and Professional Development (WHQ).
Meetings/Reporting: The BOE shall meet three (3) times each
year, at the annual conference and trade show and, where required at
the determination of the Chair and a majority of the committee, two
(2) other times as may be scheduled at WHQ and/or at a common
specialty meeting that is convenient and cost efficient given the
geographic dispersal of BOE membership. Provide minutes of each
meeting to committee and WHQ staff [Directors – Board Services;
Sales and Marketing] and submit reports to President at specified
times prior to mid-winter Board of Directors (BOD) meeting (December
each year) and Annual Conference.
Goal(s): Ensure the provision of and assist IAAM staff in
providing quality professional development programming for enhancing
the public assembly facility management profession.
Works: / Objectives
Primary Objectives: Governance. The Board of Education shall have
governing authority over all education programs within the scope of
its primary responsibilities as listed below.
1. Develop a complete inventory of all educational programs and
initiatives offered by IAAM
2. Develop a cohesive and unified educational continuum that places
all educational programs on a matrix with recommendations for a
sequence that new, continuing and long-term members should follow
3. Assist Education Department staff in evaluating ongoing education
programs and initiatives as well as professional development
speakers hired for seminars and conferences
4. Oversee the completion and publication of the textbook, all
supplemental materials such as case studies, study guides and
teaching materials (BOK)
5. Oversee any updates to the textbook and any future editions of
the textbook
6. Govern the University MBA programs in Public Assembly Facility
Management endorsed by IAAM (BOK)
7. Establish standards for educational programs and initiatives that
reinforce the Body of Knowledge and core competencies as adopted by
IAAM
8. Define the fiduciary responsibilities of program committees to
insure financial contributions from the IAAM Foundation and IAAM
meet the needs of the overall association
9. Conduct a financial and program evaluation of all existing
educational programs and make recommendations for which ones should
be continued and which ones might be eliminated
10. Develop financial/program criteria for any new educational
programs and initiatives proposed in the future
Secondary Objectives: Advisory. The Board of Education shall serve
in an advisory capacity in conjunction with the other governing
bodies with respect to the education programs cited in its secondary
responsibilities as listed below.
11. Provide resource materials as requested by the PAFMS Board of
Regents and PAFMS instructors to insure consistency between PAFMS
curriculum and the Body of Knowledge
12. Review and endorse program content for the Leadership Institute
in conjunction with the LI Council
13. Provide resources to the CFE Certification Board to develop
standards for CFE written examination questions and for evaluation
of written essay responses
14. Provide input to the Professional Development Committee in
carrying out its charges in the areas of professional development
needs assessment, conference programming, program quality, program
development, educational products and in particular grant requests
for IAAM Foundation consideration.
