INDUSTRY AFFAIRS COUNCIL
Roles and Responsibilities:


  Mission:

Enhance industry relationships and profile of IAAM for the public assembly facility management professional and position IAAM as an international leader in the profession with related concerns by providing (1) a cohesive public relations, promotion and publicity strategy, (2) encouraging and collaborating with industry partners and like minded affiliates worldwide, and (3) proactively pursuing industry representation of legislative issues and positions of advocacy for the association and the industry it serves.

 


Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Structure. The IAC combines several IAAM committees, initiatives, and representatives: CEIR, CIC, APEX, Allied Committee and External Affairs (Advocacy and Public Relations), Membership Committee, and Global Summit (ITF), etc., within an advisory council. The IAC is comprised of [a minimum of] six (6) members and a chair/vice chair, three (3) members which are at-large appointments, [member liaison – Convention Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), member liaison - Convention Industry Council (CIC) and APEX initiative rep], two (2) members [chair – Global Summit* and chair or liaison – EAC], and two (2) advisory members [chair or member liaison – Membership Committee (MC), chair or member liaison – Allied Committee (AC)] representing two standing committees. Three (3) additional member seats may be filled by the appointment of the Council’s Chairperson representing any of the following: Media, Editorial Advisory Committee, Sponsorships, Advocacy, Affiliate Organizations, e.g., WCVM. Ex-Officio delegates shall include at a minimum the IAAM’s Legal Counsel and the President of the Association, Marketing Manager of IAAM.

2. Meetings/Reports: The IAC may meet as many as three (3) times each year, at the annual conference and trade show and, where required at the determination of the Chair and a majority of the committee, two (2) other times as may be scheduled by WHQ at a common meeting that is convenient and cost efficient given the geographic disposition of IAC membership. Provide minutes of each meeting to Council Members and WHQ staff [Directors – Board Services; Sales and Marketing] and submit reports to President/CEO at specified times prior to mid-winter Board of Directors (BOD) meeting (December each year) and Annual Conference.

3. Goal(s): Ensure the provision of and assist IAAM staff in providing provisional guidance for industry related issues and positions. The chair will establish coordinated efforts with WHQ staff in the following areas: Public Relations/Advocacy; Promotions (sales/marketing) and Sponsorships.

Works / Objectives:

1. Public Relations: Assist WHQ staff in providing positive image with and through (1). Publications, (2). Promotions, (3). Customer/member satisfaction guidelines and strategies.
2. Public Advocacy: Working with WHQ staff, actively pursue resolution(s) of industry issues on behalf of IAAM members and the industry it serves while vigilantly promoting a positive ‘profile’ and image of the association. Using various mediums, publish articles, position statement, white papers, press releases, and pursue appropriate legislative agendas as it relates to the public assembly profession.
3. Membership: Assist WHQ staff and Membership Committee with strategic positioning of IAAM in industry relative to membership value, categories, and price. Explore market penetration strategies for sustaining long-term survival of IAAM and the industry professionals it servers. Evaluate chapter relationships internationally, corporate relationships with industry organizations, and affiliate relationships with sister associations.
4. Media Relations: Advise WHQ staff in development and maintaining of media and press relations. Encourage and facilitate press releases to public.
5. Industry Relations: Develop partnership strategies with Action Plan(s) to enhance affiliation(s) with like-minded, industry related associations, corporations, and agencies, to include, but not be limited to, affiliation agreements, contracts, sponsorships, and speakers bureau.
6. Global Relations: Assist WHQ staff in development of strategic planning relative to global partners. Establish Action Plan for soliciting the inclusion of worldwide correspondents reporting stories relative to global issues.
7. Sponsorship: Assist WHQ staff Marketing Manager and Sponsorship Sub-committee with input relative to strategic sponsorship alignments and/or initiatives. Assistance may include, but not be limited to, strategic planning, inventory development and solicitation.
8. Branding: Develop strategic plan that incorporates all stakeholders (e.g., venue types, etc.) to raise the recognition and profile of IAAM.
8.1. Work [Action Plan] with members to include the IAAM logo and link to IAAM web site on their individual facility web sites to increase traffic (hits/elexs) ranking.
8.2. Speakers Bureau
8.3. Encourage members to put IAAM member on business cards, stationary, doors, e-mails, etc.
