PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Roles and
Responsibilities:

Mission:
Reporting to the Chair – Board of Education (BOE), and working with the
Director of Education, the Chair, along with the committee shall be
responsible for ensuring the delivery of the BOE core competencies
through programming components associated with each of the specialty
meetings ( AMC, ICCC, ISMC, and PAFAS) and the Annual Conference and
Trade Show.

Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Structure. The following positions shall be established /
filled to work with the President/CEO and World Headquarters (WHQ)
staff in providing IAAM member-driven professional development
support: (1) Chair – responsible for overall coordination of
committee strategy and agenda(s) [serves on LSC and ex-officio on
FDN, BOR, BOG], (2) Vice Chair and, (3) include the Vice Chair(s) –
Programming, of each of the facility specific conferences, [Arenas,
Stadiums, Performing Arts, Convention Centers, Crowd Management and
University Venue Management Conferences]. Additionally, committee
shall consist of a minimum of six (6) members at-large and, to
facilitate empowerment of committee resource development. Chair may
appoint other sub-committees where applicable. [see ‘Leadership
Structure’ for support detail]. Vacancies should be filled no later
than July 1, annually and assume role at conclusion of Annual
Conference. Composition of committee shall include association
members that demonstrate an interest in enhancing the
professionalism of the industry through educational and professional
development training tools.
2. Liaison Roles: The Professional Development Committee,
represented by the Chair, or Chair designee, will provide a liaison
role to the following committees: Board of Education, Life Safety
Council, AVSS Curriculum Committee, Board of Trustees, Board of
Regents and Board of Governors.
3. Works / Objectives: Embrace and disseminate information
relative to Board of Education curriculum and policy guidelines as
they relate to facility specific seminar/conferences and district
meetings. Provide leadership to include, but not be limited to:
a. Needs Assessment: Work with IAAM staff to develop and implement
techniques for
assessing IAAM member needs in the areas of education and
professional
development, i.e., member surveys, focus groups, evaluations, etc.
b. Annual Conference Programming: Identify relevant topics/issues
and speakers that
will proactively provide tangible enhancement to the venue
management work place
and value to IAAM members.
c. Specialty Meetings: Encourage implementation of educational
priorities, as
established by the Board of Education, at facility specific meetings
and District
meetings.
d. Program / Product Quality: Assess and provide recommendations
related to
improving the quality of professional development presentations at
all IAAM meetings,
specialty meetings and district meetings. Create a long term
mechanism for
monitoring, historical comparison and analysis for all programs and
products using
evaluations, attendance and profit data.
e. Grant Requests: Assist the Board of Directors and IAAM Foundation
in reviewing and prioritizing grant applications for educational
programs, e.g., Staff Review/comment, PDC Review/Rank/Recommend, and
FDN Review/Approval
f. Products Development: Provide technical input and review for IAAM
educational products as requested by staff, i.e., Video training
programs, Center for Venue Mgt Studies, Resource material
suggestions for complementing the physical and electronic collection
and catalog of product available for sale.
g. Identify and develop comprehensive industry research projects for
an ongoing research program and create a strategic plan on how to
initiate, implement, and fund said program.
i. Identify the research process and methods that would be involved
with each project and who might be most suited to undertake these
projects, as well as the length of time each project might take to
complete.
ii. Create a uniform set of variables so that each project is
scrutinized thoroughly while ensuring the research needs are member
association-specific.
iii. Justify the rationale and impact that the research would yield.
iv. Provide a cost/benefit analysis of each project considering such
facts as data collection, statistical process, and the expansiveness
of the project.
h. Program Development: Assist staff in developing new educational
programs as may be required.
