Name: Brenda Pennington

Position: Sponsorship Manager

Describe some of your responsibilities: Solicit sponsorship funds for all meetings and schools; registration for all meetings and schools; E-News job ads posting and billing; travel for executive officers and boards when requested.

How long have you been with IAAM? On May 19, it will be 11 years.

Favorite Part of IAAM: Traveling to our different meetings. I love being able to spend time with the membership and getting to know them. Over the years I have developed some very close friendships with a number of our members, and I even keep in contact with some who are no longer in the industry.

What are some exciting things coming up in your area that you would like our members to know about? I am very excited because I have started contacting our past conference sponsors for this year’s 83rd Annual Conference & Tradeshow and will continue to make contacts as I travel to the various district meetings this spring. I feel that this year will be one of our best annual conferences and I look forward to seeing the final product. In addition, for the past year at various meetings, our Allied members have been talking about the need for a one-stop shop for sponsorship opportunities. I have been working closely with the Allied DAL, the Allied Chair and our various specialty meeting committees to come up with an all inclusive brochure that will outline each meeting and the availabilities for each meeting. There will be a specific section on the Foundation including contact information to make a donation. This will also introduce opportunities for global sponsorships and will encompass all opportunities available within the Association and the Foundation. I am excited about this project and hope to have this available to roll out soon.

How do you hope to add value to the IAAM Members? With the addition of the Sponsorship brochure, for lack of a better title at this time, I hope to eliminate the duplicate phone calls that our Allied Members receive. They currently receive calls from several different areas regarding sponsorship and it is my hope that this will give them a central point of contact.

Who/What inspires you? My daughter Jordan is a great inspiration to me. She is an only child. Jordan went to a small private Catholic school. When she was in her junior year, the school went though an extremely tough financial period. They lost teachers and more than half of their students. We thought about pulling her out of that school and enrolling her in another private school but she wanted to stay where her friends were, even though the quality of education she would receive might not be as good. She was the only graduation senior and since she attended a private school, there were no class rankings. On her own merit, without the benefits of the top 10% ranking, she was accepted at the University of Texas at Austin and is currently a junior majoring in communication studies. She makes me so very proud.

What is something that the members don’t know about you? My real hair color – I am not sure I do. I am also a certified belly dancer in both cabaret and tribal styles and I just recently started taking Hula/Tahitian dance lessons. I have recently retired from playing soccer, which I did for almost 20 years. In May, I will be resigning my position as president of North Texas Women’s Soccer Association, a position I have held for the past six years.

Hobbies: Dancing – of course, lifting weights, plugging in the IPOD and taking long walks, and reading.
